Note

This issue is connected with #344 and #341.
This issue is for gathering interest and discussion about implementation details of this feature.
Feel free to write your comments and like the issue if it would be helpful for you!

Few questions you can answer:

  • Do you miss this feature from boostnote legacy?
  • Is it better to have this option as opt-in i.e. editor tabs would take space at the top of the editor, by not using this feature you can have more space, but by using it you can easily navigate between notes (see Revamp all Shortcut keys #700 for navigation improvements)
  • Which shortcut would the open new tab be?
  • Ability to organize tabs (move them)
  • Ability to save opened tabs
  • Ability to split two editor views (two tabs): left/right, up/down)

Current behavior

Users cannot view multiple notes at the same time.

Expected behavior

Users should be able to view multiple notes at the same time. Either via opening note in another window or using the editor tabs (like in boostnote legacy)

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open boostnote application
  2. Try opening two notes and edit/view them simultaneously

Environment

Desktop

  • Boost Note.next version: 0.12.3
  • OS version and name: Windows/Mac/Linux

I'm currently thinking window management system just like major modern browsers, Chrome, Firefox, and others. So users can open other documents or spaces in a new tab and can detach them from the original window. I will close this issue once the spec is ready.

@Rokt33r I'll like this issue ported to the local space repo since I think it will be in the 2022 roadmap so I'll investigate more how to achieve this in the local app. It will probably be this or a separate note window.

Can you copy it there?

@Komediruzecki This issue should be handled separately from the one of the local app. Please create a fresh one in the local space.
