Current behavior

After upgrading to version 0.14.1, the toggle menu for switching App Mode in the General section of the Preferences tab had disappeared.

Expected behavior

Reverting to the previous 0.13.2 seems to solve the issue: the toggle menu App Mode is available.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Upgrading to version 0.14.1
  2. Go to Preferences
  3. Go to General

Environment

Desktop/Web

  • Boost Note.next version: 0.14.1
  • OS version and name: Windows 10 20H2

Hi gizmecano,

please see release notes: https://github.com/BoostIO/BoostNote.next/releases/tag/v0.14.1
There is no more note app layout provided in this version.

Oops, I'm really sorry, I didn't pay attention to that note (I just used the automatic update system).

So, this means that drag and drop is no longer supported at all either, since you can't switch modes anymore (as you explained in the past in #682)?

I guess we have to wait for #349 to progress (hoping that drag and drop notes may be included in addition).

Yes, you are correct about that one. You can try the new cloud/local space workspace, it's supported there.
For boost note local file system space we should wait for #349

(...) You can try the new cloud/local space workspace, it's supported there.

I think I can understand the business plan, but I assume you can certainly understand that some users are more interested in local storage for privacy purposes in some particular cases (such as strictly private projects without any type of sharing or joint effort).

For boost note local file system space we should wait for #349

In the same vein, I think we can consider that any progress on #690 be helpful too for this key feature.

Thanks for your attention.

Of course, I don't know what is the current progress/status of those issues but will try to do my best to provide all the features that are essential for easy note-taking in the local storage/space.

Wow. What program in 2021 which provides a tree-like-organising of information does not allow drag/drop rearranging ? So basically the only way to organise the folders is to create a new structure, think VERY carefully about the naming etc, then create new notes, and copy/paste ?

This seems very counter-intuitive. If it's a way to push people to enter paid plans, I think it will be a hard win. The first experience of boostnote.next will be "can't do very basic things like cut/copy/paste and rearrange".

It's really difficult to make the choice to move away from boost legacy to boostnote.next.

Thank you for your concern.

I must admit, however, that I am very surprised by this kind of change which forces a return to an earlier version (and which unfortunately clearly looks like a regression).

This seems very counter-intuitive.

I sincerely hope that this was not the aim. 😕

If it's a way to push people to enter paid plans, I think it will be a hard win.

IMHO, removing such primary features may not prompt people to test the application for a long time, and therefore certainly not to consider acquiring any kind of paid plan.

@myicq sorry for the trouble. We're currently working on providing the same UX for both sides, local space and cloud space. So the local space will support the arranging feature.

Thanks for these words: I hope drag and drop feature will be fixed soon (in the meantime, I have switched back to an earlier version).
