Trying to understand forceNiceScale - can't get it to take effect?

Currently I have:

    name: 'series-1',
    data: [310, 154, 81, 172, 41, 420, 210, 75]
}];
const options = {
    ...
    yaxis: {
        min: 0,
        max: Math.max(...data[0].data) * 1.1,
        stepSize: 50,
        forceNiceScale: true
    },
    ...
}

I want my maximum y-axis value to be 110% the highest data value. But when I do this I still end up with arbitrary y-axis markers like 81, 475 etc. - doesn't forceNiceScale coerce them to into being logically separated e.g. 100, 200, 300 etc.?
