Describe the request

Please add an option in 'settings' to ask/always/never if the user want to reload tabs when file contents have changed.

Describe the current behavior

Tabs are reloaded automatically when file contents have changed. Which has caused me to lose changes inadvertently.

Thanks for your report @boylesg.

Tabs are reloaded automatically when file contents have changed. Which has caused me to lose changes inadvertently.

Please provide detailed instructions I can follow to reproduce the loss of changes.

Arduino IDE is designed to only load external changed when the file is in a saved state. I just performed several tests and that system is behaving as expected for me. So, unless there is a bug in that system, loss of changes you made via Arduino IDE should only be possible by deliberate user action (removing those changes via the external editor), or a defect in the external editor.
