As far as I can tell it occurs when you have a sketch on a UBS drive loaded in the IDE and the USB drive goes off and then online. E.G. Due to a dislodged USB plug.
So in the folder LEDSignBoard the IDE will make a copy of all the source files in this subfolder.
To reproduce
It appears as though it occurs with E: drive (in this case) goes off line and then online when I restore the USB plug.
Expected behavior
If the IDE cannot find the sketch folder then it should throw up a file browse dialog box like all other software does.
