Similar to #2379 , when using the neo layout, it is impossible to type =. With the neo layout, = is typed via a modifier key + o. On OS X the modifier key is the option key.

When trying to type =, nothing happens inside jupyter notebook or jupyter lab.

Are you trying to use = for a shortcut in command mode, or just to enter it into a cell? If you're trying to enter it as text, check whether it works in the Codemirror demo here: http://codemirror.net/

Thanks @takluyver . I'm trying to enter = in a cell. It does not work in the in the Codemirror demo http://codemirror.net/ , actually a similar bug is already reported for Codemirror codemirror/codemirror5#4066 . And the respective issue with the keyboard layout jgosmann/neo2-layout-osx#6 .
