Preview included files

I know that this is completely beyond the scope of the plugin itself, but has anyone heard of a way to enable previewing of included files in the editor? Preferably in IntelliJ, but perhaps in VS Code?
If you have many included files, and you use the feature to build a library of snippets in order to use the same wording throughout a body of documentation, it can be hard to know if you chose the right snippet. And the author can't tell without opening the snippet or building the output.
Another idea: What about an IntelliJ or Code plugin that lets you preview AND select a snippet from a snippet library?
