Plugin - 403 Forbidden

I'm writing a custom plugin. I receive a 403 forbidden error when trying to POST new entries, which I have determined is related to overriding the save method. Any ideas what would cause this?

    def save(self, *args, **kwargs):
        self.full_clean()

        if self.is_dynamic:
            return

        else:
            ipaddress =  self.check_ipam_exists()
            if ipaddress:
                self.ipam_ip_address = ipaddress
            else:
                ip = self.create_ipam_address()
                self.ipam_ip_address = ip

        ldap = self.check_contact_exists()
        if ldap:
            self.ldap_user = ldap

        super().save(*args, **kwargs)

I've worked around this by using signals instead. Any explanation about the original problem would be appreciated.
