Style file to only use nodes that my ways use

I would like to create a style file that would allow me to only process nodes if they are associated with a way. My use case is that I only want ways that have the highway tag and the nodes that belong to them. This would be similar to the --use-node in osmosis.

There is currently no direct way to do this. But you can get the geometry of a way (object:as_linestring()) and you can get all the ids of the member nodes (object.nodes) in the way callback. And you can import all the nodes with certain tags (say barrier) into the database. Then you can do some post-processing in the database to assemble the data again. But the details depend on what exactly you are trying to achive. If you tell us more about your use case maybe we can give a more concrete answer how to solve that.

Thanks for the response. I was attempting to accomplish this by adding all marked and unmarked nodes into a table, and then insert them from either the after_ways() or process_ways(), but I ran into errors with adding to the nodes table from those functions. The goal is rather simple, I need all nodes, untagged or tagged, that belong to a way. I can achieve this with osmosis with something similar to osmosis --read-pbf "california-latest.osm.pbf" --tf accept-ways highway=* --tf reject-relations --used-node, but I wanted to do all of the transformations in the lua style file.

You are saying you need all nodes, tagged or untagged that belong to a way. Do you need the ids, the location? What? As I said, if you give us an idea of what you are trying to accomplish in the end, we can give you better advice.

Don't mess with the database in the after_*() functions, it will not go well.
