Kanji in file name despite having changed artist to romanji

I use Bob Swift's Naming Script in combination with the Additional Artists Variable plugin.
When Picard downloads album information and puts the kanji version into the artist/artists/composer fields, I can manually correct these to romanji for the mp3 tag.
But the file name still contains the kanji version of the name.
I expect this to come from the plugin which seems to hold the variables from the downloaded information in some hidden storage.
I haven´t looked into the plugin code yet, would it be possible to redirect it to read the updated information?

The Additional Artists Variables plugin sets variables (beginning with an underscore) based on the information downloaded from MusicBrainz for the release. When you are updating fields, you are updating tags (not beginning with an underscore). If you want to use the updated information from these tags then you need to replace the corresponding variables in the script with the names of the tags.
