Detect pub sub reconnected

Hi i would like to ask, how to detect redis client on which pub/sub is operating had reconnected. Because i use pub sub as a fire and forget notification, however when client is temporarly down, i would like to poll some value if it didnt change (because changes to it might have been lost during disconnec)
