Why are v5 and v6 modal examples not behaving the same?

Looking at the modal route examples for v5 and v6, looks like they should have the same functionally, but actually, v6 does not work as I'd expect (after refresh, I'd expect it to display image component within layout, not in modal again).

Logging to the console background location object that's been set on link click:

• in v5 (codesandbox example), after reload background location object is undefined,
• in v6 (stackblitz example), after reload background location object have the same values as before refresh.
