Sidebar does not expand into header titles if using sidebar.js

I have a doc site where I used to link directly with the markdown files. But once I have added a custom sidebar.js config, it no longer goes further down and expand based on the headers of the articles.

so you can see that it shows the Overvieww for the Mac section, but no longer expands all the inner headers.

What should I do to get the headers back as sidebar items?

previously, I used strings pointing to the markdown and the headers will show up.
