Is it possible to show a formatting character literally?

I'm not sure if this relates to render-markdown.nvim or not.
I'd like to show some formatting characters literally and I try it by preceding a backslash.
But the result looks like this.

Is it possible to show a formatting character literally in a markdown file rendered by this great plugin, shown in the below image? Thanks.

Follow the suggestion here: #335 under the Hiding Backslash Escapes section.

This lets you use the backslashes to stop text from being recognized as specific markdown blocks while hiding the backslash that you add.
