We still hammer /versions when /sync is dead

To the point of stacking requests. Here's a sample:

I actually don't think we can do anything about this. It happens in a strange edge case where we stack up /versions at 15s intervals and do try and cancel them, however the browser (Chrome) appears to be refusing to cancel them. As far as I can tell, this is Chrome stacking requests which are in flight due to too many requests being in flight, preventing cancellation.

Closing as "wontfix" for this reason.
