Constant unread highlight notifications in one particular room

Steps to reproduce

I am a member of one specific room where, every morning, a bot sends a message with a mention in it. People then post replies to the bot in a thread.

This pattern seems to be total kryptonite for unread notifications: obviously the mention causes a red highlight in the room list, but the red highlight never goes away.

Occasionally it is possible to get it to go away with "Mark room as read". Often that actually makes things worse (the unread count goes up).

I am having the same issue. I have multiple rooms that as soon as I open them to read a message, I am spammed with more unread messages that have been read.
This is happening across multiple clients applications.

I get this sort of bug all the time on https://app.element.io/ and its highly annoying. Unread badges will reappear multiple times often, despite manually saying "i have read this". Sometimes it will even just say hundreds of old messages are unread, especially when heavily using threads. It happens daily, to the point where matrix/element feels like a broken UX.
