SyntaxError: Unexpected token '??='

I'm surprised I can't find anything about this, but I'm having a build error after just installing a new project and building. I narrowed it down to the version of vue-tsc I'm using. I'm using the latest (1.8.1), but when I revert back to 1.2.0, it builds fine.

Steps:
npm create vite@latest

Any ideas or suggestions? My solution for now is just using an older version, but I'd like to get updates at some point.
